Store konsekvenser for laksebestanden

Hvad sker der lige med klimaet og når laksene at komme op og gyde?

Vi snakker meget om det helt atypiske klima og om det er klimaforandringerne der slår igennem. Uanset årsagen er det et år med store konsekvenser for floderne og laksene. En historisk varm sommer med stort set ingen regn og et efterår stort set uden regn giver floder med ekstrem lav vandstand. Samtidig er laksene trukket ind fra havet og venter på at gå op for at gyde. De dør allesammen efter endt leg, men lige nu står størstedelen stille i Fraser river og kan ikke komme op for at gyde. De begynder at dø fra det øjeblik de går ind i flodsystemet og kan de ikke komme op i de mindre floder, når de ikke at gyde og bringe balance i naturens orden. Skulle de endelig komme op, er mange gydebanker tørlagte. Alt i alt et rigtig kedeligt og dybt alvorligt perspektiv.

Det har indtil nu ramt pink laksene alvorligt – de er de første, der går op for at gyde. Der har kun været få i systemet og for at beskytte bestanden må fiskerne ikke beholde pink laks, de skal alle udsættes igen.

Kongelaksene står også og venter, men her ser det ud til at mange på trods af alle odds presser sig igennem og op i systemerne. Ligeså med sølv laksene som efter sigende bruger natten til at trække igennem. Begge laksearter fylder klækkeriets kanaler langt oppe ad Chilliwack river, så det ser ikke så alvorligt ud endnu.

Heldigvis har Canada rigtig godt styr på deres fiskepleje og hjælper med at få balance i tingene. Er sikker på, at de kompenserer så meget de kan for de manglende gydepladser i floderne.

Vi bliver ved med at vente på den forløsende regn – og der skal meget til. Det ser ud til at det kommer i næste uge, men vil lige blive godt og grundig våd før jeg tror på det.

Midt i alt det, er det stadig utroligt smukt og der er mange kongelaks at fiske efter og stør ikke at forglemme.
